I am a professional Photographer, for events, weddings, modeling, and I sdo videos as well for small businesses in town.I come from th old Nikon D40X, and I have always loved nikon. When Z6 was release, I got it. Really happy with it, used it for 100k photos over two years paired up with 2xD750. Great combo. Focusing for Z6 was poor on low light, eye detection was poor in many cases but I always found the way to get the perfect shot.Since I started my journey on video, I was very close to sell everytrhing and move to Sony. I LOVE nikon colors so much, I quite dislike sony colors. I went over this decision for almost a year.Long story short, this Z9 is the perfect BEAST for photo and video. The focusing is Extremely fast, super accurate for eye detection on humans, cats and dogs AND CARS! .3D tracking is unique. You can track a subject, lose it out of the frame and bring it back and it will regain the focus on the subject, even after being out of the frame.Many Funtion buttons to set up your best way to shoot.Recording 4k 60 FPS internal LOG is amazing, and the VR option makes you easily hand held many shots.on Video, the subject tracking is fantastic as well, and very easy to switch from face detection to subject tracking .This is truly the BEST nikon Camera in the last 15 years at least, and it can beat many sony and canons out there.No Heating issuesBattery last easy all day for a weddingThe ergonomics is just perfect.

Bought this camera mostly for outdoor stuff, birds, flowers… I give the camera a 4 or 5. Nice size, good zoom, menus OK. The Nikon software that is described in the owners manual is non-existent. The wifi networking and the editing software have not been updated to conform to new iOS standards and can not be installed on an iphone. You can work around the file transfer using AIrDrop instead of wifi to get pics to the iPhone from your computer after using a card reader to get them into the computer, a round about pain. Customer support is slow. In two rounds with them, their 24 to 48 hr response was 3 days both times. I’ll keep it since I like the camera, but very disappointed with Nikon overall.

I know we’ve come a long way in terms of camera size, but this one still feels kinda big too me. It’s definitely not something I could squeeze into my pocket, it’s not smartphone sized at all. And compared with my old Coolpix 7600, its about the same weight, and not a whole lot thinner.In any case, the nice big display screen shows crisp images.It has a cool continuous feature that takes multiple pictures in the event you are trying to capture a changing scene (like my baby daughter moving around). But most of the pictures I’ve taken with it have come out blurry so far.Another cool feature is the subject tracking, which puts a target on your subject and keeps them in focus even as they are moving so you get a non-blurred picture.The zoom is pretty awesome, especially compared to my old Coolpix. It really gets up close.As previously stated, the Flash is in the worst location possible. I found it under my left index finger as I was about to take a picture and it tried to pop-up. I can see how this will get annoying after a while. In fact, I have missed a few great photo opportunities as a result.The Full HD video quality is amazing. It’s very crisp and clear, just like the still pictures. I can’t imagine why anyone would need a home video camera if you have this camera. It definitely beats out video cameras in terms of size and probably quality too.And don’t forget, it doesn’t come with a memory card, so if you don’t have one, get one. And probably a large capacity one for HD videos.Update:So we just checked the sound quality of the videos we took, and it’s pretty poor. You can hear the zooming mechanical sounds in the audio of the video when you zoom in and out. That’s very unfortunate.We are thinking about returning it, but still looking for a better option first.Final Update:So we ended up returning the S8100 and went with the
Nikon Coolpix S6000 14.2MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Silver-primary)
. The 720p HD looks just as good on my laptop as the Full HD of the S8100. In fact, the full HD from the S8100 was acting a bit choppy even on my intel Core i5 brand new laptop! It wouldn’t work at all on my old Intel P4.The zoom is ok, but definitely needs plenty of light for a good shot.It’s also a lighter weight and smaller camera which is a big plus for me.And the best part is that it’s half the price of the S8100. I was definitely not getting an additional $150 worth of value on the S8100.
